Nightshades are part of the Solanaceae family of plants and contain traces of toxic alkaloids that can cause inflammation, retain water in the body and be slightly addictive to your body’s tissues. Ayurveda advises to keep nightshades low or out of your diet and that they can dramatically affect Pitta constitutions. Eat in moderation to enjoy some of the positive properties of nightshades.
